With pupils becoming increasingly digitally literate at a much younger age, it has become essential that we teach them the importance of not just how to stay safe online, but how to use technology responsibly. This workshop has been developed in collaboration with Disney Club Penguin to address the safeguarding agenda for e-safety and further develop important English Literacy skills in writing and comprehension, as well as Digital Literacy.
Pupils begin the day by using games, quizzes and controlled discussions to help them understand the issues surrounding e-safety before they move into the Club Penguin virtual world for structured play which promote the “Be Cool, Be Heard, Be Safe” message for responsible Internet use. Through free play and set challenges pupils will be supported and encouraged to understand and put into practice the importance of responsible use and Internet etiquette.
The final session of the day is designed to alleviate any misconceptions, answer any remaining queries and allow the pupils to extend and deepen their understanding of the learning objectives. Pupils will explore existing e-safety games, puzzles and activities, and use them as a source of inspiration to create their own, developing important digital literacy skills while they do.
