Here at Plymouth University our teacher training institute (PIoE) will be working alongside the CAS hub to deliver a range of Digital Schoolhouse activities both on our city centre campus and as an outreach programme.
As an institute, we have thriving Bachelor of Education, PGCE and Bachelor of Arts programmes where we help teachers prepare for their classroom careers by exploring theory, practice and subject knowledge necessary to thrive in a modern school environment.
An integral part of all of our primary courses is technology in the classroom and of course the primary computing curriculum. We have well equipped computer suites, up to date iPads and a range of resources such as Lego WeDo kits which we connect to Scratch. In addition to these things we also make use of unplugged resources to explore computational thinking in a variety of ways.
As a Digital Schoolhouse we aim to build on this by connecting with teachers and children in schools, giving opportunities for ideas to be shared in both directions and for children to share the excitement of discovery when learning about computational thinking in new and innovative ways.
