Applications have opened! Here’s how you can apply to become the next Digital Schoolhouse

Author: sophia.aker

This year is set to be an exciting one for Digital Schoolhouse. We already have a strong network of 30+ Schoolhouses continuing to do incredible work for computing education, reaching 15,000 students and 2,500 teachers in 2018 alone. We have close links with industry through our incredible sponsors who support and champion the work we do. Now, with new crucial funding from DCMS, we are able to expand to a total of 50 Schoolhouses by September 2019.

We are looking for exceptional, creative and forward-looking teachers who are excited and passionate about furthering quality computing education in their schools and beyond.

How does Digital Schoolhouse work?

Ukie’s Digital Schoolhouse powered by PlayStation is a not-for-profit programme designed to inspire and engage students with creative computing to prepare them for the 21st century workforce. The programme is completely free with no hidden costs. We promise! All we ask is commitment from your part and a passion to learn and teach computing concepts in creative ways to students in your school and across your area.

Workshops are hosted by Digital Schoolhouses (usually secondary schools) and taught by their appointed Digital Schoolhouse Lead Teacher (DSLT) to visiting primary schools. Through the programme, students learn important computing concepts in creative, fun play-based learning, both plugged (online) and unplugged (offline). Through our portfolio of original cross-curricular resources, the wealth of resources and games is ever expanding and always engaging.

As a DSH Lead Teacher you get the chance to combine workshops with your own creative curriculum, and the workshops are modelling best practice so that teachers learn alongside students.

Why become a Digital Schoolhouse?

Digital Schoolhouse offers teachers and students a unique opportunity to inspire, create, and collaborate to revolutionise computing education, equipping the next generation with the digital skills they need to thrive.

Moreover, we have a wealth of benefits including funding opportunities (you are eligible for a bursary!), free entry to our renowned esports tournament, links with industry specialists, access to CPD events & training opportunities, and so much more. Digital Schoolhouse is also a fantastic and unique opportunity to network nationally with other Schoolhouses and locally with schools in your community.

This is a chance for your school to be at the forefront of computing education by helping the next generation become confident and competent in mastering digital concepts, and exposing them to the many careers available to them in the digital industries.
